Sitting in the Chicago O'Hare airport on yet another layover, I saw many other business travelers trudging along with their backpacks and bags.  I did not mind the travel, but being away from the family for extended periods was getting more common as I got further along in my career.

 

I called my wife right from that airport and asked her what we could do once we became empty nesters, as our last child was heading off to college in the fall.  We talked about what we enjoyed doing together.

The idea for NC Raised was born right there.  I have a passion for woodworking, and she has a passion for signs, for fun and decorating.    Finally, we are both frugal and we like to recycle what we can into usable items. So NC Raised was started.

​

We recycle wood furniture, pallets, deck boards, and any other wood materials into engraved signs  Everything is hand made, and if you ask, we will share the story of how we acquired the materials that we use for any given item.  The signs will be more of a rustic look instead of the polished look at a store.  Some signs will be heavier and have the natural aging and contours maintained.

It all started with the pile I had been collecting under my house for many years, and a few fun places we've been and sayings we enjoyed.  We hope you can enjoy what we make just as much as we enjoy making it.  Be sure to check back regularly to see what we find next.
